Oracle of the Water
by Amber Logan, Kachina Mickeletto, and Jasmine Becket-Griffith
I’ve had 4 different oracle collaborations featuring the art of Jasmine Becket-Griffith, and without exception, they are all wonderful additions to any collection. This was my first of their collaborative decks, so it holds a special place in my heart, as a Florida girl with a special affection for the Weeki Wachee mermaids.
Each deck is produced and packaged with quality and consideration. They are all sold in lidded boxes with an insert to keep the cards from rattling around, and each comes with a think guide book that’s well-thought out, providing scope, depth, and context to the deck’s theme.
The cards (44 cards in this deck) themselves are oversized, which can be a little tough to shuffle if you have small hands. But the reason for the size is to provide the best vehicle for the art, and to ensure that the reader is able to appreciate the detail of each card.
The guidebook is a little over a hundred pages, with an introductory section that teaches new readers some suggested ways of bonding with their deck and approaching the cards, including a few simple spreads and one specific to this deck and its theme, The Wave.
The guide to each card includes its name, a small rhyming song (as a Siren might sing), with a simple explanation of the card and the symbolism of each element of the scene. Next, the guide sums up the Divination Message into a straightforward phrase, that can be used for memorization, with a detailed explanation of the message. The guide additionally includes an Antithesis section, which could be used to interpret a card reversal (which many people don’t address in an oracle deck), or, if providing a reading for someone else, simply the “shadow” element of the card’s meaning and message.
A great addition to any tarot/oracle reader’s collection, or a great gift for fans of Jasmine Becket-Griffith’s artwork — or even just for mermaid lovers. Whether they’re used for divination, meditation, or simply appreciation, you’ll never regret making an investment in a Blue Angel deck.
